 Kythira’s lighthouses

Like a ringing bell, the echo of harems. A death is announced! The calm spirit flees, surprised by torment, and reason drowns in it. Petrified callipyges, Aphrodites masked with marbled arrogance, beauties perched high on these giant bases. A mythological army in battle dress. Marching! Female warriors approach! Dire cadence!  Clank, clank, clank, clank… Achilles’ heels, from Achilles to the body of Helen. Clank, clank, clank... The cadence of armour advancing, advancing ... and what armour! No load seems to disturb them, these impregnable fortresses, these dreams of stone. Clank, clank… Attack! Attack! The titanic nymphs hold and hold again. Scale the colossi! Climb a little further, to the jewel enclosed in these walls ... penetrate the ramparts of these grandiose demons. Called to their bosom by some magic song, they all set course for them... but hard are the coral reefs that block their way. How many boats have already been wrecked there? Who cares! Continue the climb. Climb, climb, climb ... ever lower! Seek out the golden fleece hidden in these towers. Conquer, conquer, conquer this monstrous foot! Climb to the top, invade the fort. Find a crack, a crevice, crawl through ... At last! Conquer! Yes, conquer this giant as you would conquer a castle! Descend to the treasure vault; be dazzled, stunned, stupefied by so many splendours, by so much brilliance ... find yourself locked in, a captive! Condemned! Clank, clank, clank, clank, clank, clank ... She goes away, tomb-like fortress... even harder to leave than to enter.

Through these eminent haloed monoliths, Simon Rimaz reveals these enchanting towers. Huts disguised as prodigious palaces… frail girls perched on sturdy pedestals, hundredfold Lilliputians ... Women, finally! Women ... monumental women, monuments of women. Cyclopean creatures, huge buildings with perilous walls! Terrible ramparts along which glows the deadly goldenness – of its lights - the painted ornaments of a soul going barefoot.
